The Annual Project Meeting 2024 was held from November 6–7 Virtually, bringing together project partners from Uganda, Denmark, and other regions to review progress, share insights, and chart the path ahead. The meeting provided a valuable forum for interdisciplinary exchange across research, implementation, and administrative teams.
Over the two-day session, participants engaged in discussions around the project's key work packages, including agroforestry systems, climate-smart agriculture modeling, and business model development for rural livelihoods. Updates from each partner institution highlighted significant milestones—ranging from data collection and stakeholder engagement to student research progress and early modeling results.
A strong focus was placed on aligning research activities with the overarching goal of supporting farmers to achieve a living income while promoting climate resilience through sustainable land use. Partners reviewed progress in the use of tools such as the SHAMBA model and discussed the integration of different datasets, local knowledge, and farming system scenarios to better understand income, productivity, and carbon dynamics.
The meeting also addressed coordination and communication, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration across work packages. Key decisions were made regarding the planning of upcoming fieldwork in Uganda, preparation of policy briefs, and harmonization of data for joint publications.
Another highlight was the engagement of PhD students, whose work is central to the generation of high-quality, locally relevant evidence. The mentorship and research support structures were reviewed to ensure students are well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to project outcomes.
As the meeting concluded, there was a shared sense of progress and commitment to deepening the project's impact. Action points were agreed upon to ensure momentum is maintained heading into the next year.
We thank all participants for their contributions and look forward to continued collaboration in transforming agroforestry into a driver of sustainable rural development.
